mario and sonic at the sochi winter olympics 2014
The rivalry between SEGA and Nintendo has been gone for a long while and no longer will you see commercials like the classic “SEGA does what NintenDONT”. In fact the two companies appear to be besties these days as Nintendo has just announced that they have entered into an exclusive worldwide partnership with SEGA to produce three Sonic games.

Sonic: Lost World will be the first title, will be for both the Wii U and the 3DS, and will be an action-adventure platformer game. But aside from those little tidbits, nothing else was really revealed.

The second game was announced as Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Game and much as the title suggests it will take place in Sochi, Russia where the 22nd Winter Olympic Games will be held. As in previous games, skiing and snowboarding will be returning as well as some new events like paired figure skating for all of that hardcore Peach/Sonic skating action you’ve been demanding. The most interesting thing revealed however is that there will be a “green events” mode with stages set in the worlds of both Sonic and Mario giving you the ability to do showy and unrealistic moves not possible in the real world. No release date was provided, but given that the Olympics aren’t until 2014, my guess is that the game would be released sometime next year.

The third Sonic title remains a mystery…for now…

Considering that Nintendo will be skipping E3 this year, you would think that they would be giving more details about things, but then again who knows what is going through the minds of the higher-ups at Nintendo is thinking these days.
