A Charming Mash-Up Indeed | Dungeon Hearts Review

Genre-blending games somehow always manage to strike a chord with me, from Mass Effect to Borderlands to Blood Bowl to Activision’s BattleZone (look it up). So it is with Dungeon Hearts, a very time-sensitive puzzler with an RPG veneer that’s simple to learn, but I’ve had a hard time mastering.

Impressive, Yet Disappointing | Sanctum 2 Review

Full disclosure: I never played the first Sanctum game. I’ve previously mentioned my affection for genre-blending hybrid concepts, and the Sanctum series seeks to combine tower defense with FPS and a class-based, co-op focus. Without the frame of reference of its predecessor, I couldn’t help doing the compare-and-contrast exercise with Dungeon Defenders, another class-based, co-op, tower defense title that presents [...]

The Dying of the Light | Metro: Last Light Review

Metro: Last Light feels like its creation was based on a round of hot potato. you can almost picture each member of 4A Games’ development team, in their Kiev offices, eagerly grabbing the potato,  ready to throw on all sorts of fillings (gameplay, story characters), only forced to toss it to another member after a few seconds in fear of burning their hands. [...]

Where No Man Should Go Again | Star Trek: The Video Game Review

What makes gamers everywhere cringe all at once?  When a video game is created based off a popular movie. Very rarely does this idea ever truly work out, because it always just feels scheme-ish in nature.  It is just another way for a big company to try and make money off the little guy.  You can be as objective as [...]

Slay the Dragon | Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon Review

You have to give the folks over at Ubisoft credit; they took a great game, gave it a new twist and produced something boldly creative and unique. It wasn’t an easy task, especially when you consider that Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon was vulnerable to becoming yet another FPS clone in the crowded first person shooter genre. Instead, Far Cry 3: Blood [...]

Revisit the Nightmare in Paradise | Dead Island Riptide Review

Dead Island Riptide is the direct sequel to Techland’s 2011 smash hit Dead Island. In Dead Island Riptide, you’ll start your adventure exactly where you left off. However, this time there is a brand new island to explore with lots of action and mystery on its own. The game features a four player co-op mode and a deep role-playing-like system [...]

Total Shtako | Defiance Review

The Syfy Channel has been attempting to merge the realms of television and video games for the past few years. Their first attempt was with the Red Faction series, releasing the network original movie Red Faction: Origins in 2011. Origins was intended to bridge the gap between Guerrilla and its sequel Armageddon, both of which were mediocre critically and financially. This [...]

A Retrospective on Mass Effect 3′s DLC

With post-release DLC an established norm these days, much was expected from the DLC for Mass Effect 3. DLC offerings give the developers an opportunity to take the pulse of gamers before they expand, enrich, fill in holes, tie up loose ends, and let players run around in more of the story’s universe. The possibilities here are especially pertinent for [...]

BioShock Infinite Review – Floating On Cloud 9

BioShock Infinite is a game that many people have been anxiously waiting for ever since it was first announced in 2010.  Hype for the game only grew when Irrational Games showed off a rather impressive demo of the game at E3 2011.  Now, after a few delays, the much anticipated game has finally hit the shelves, but does it live [...]
