If you were unaware, recently Valve announced that they were going to start charging people for mods to Skyrim as a way to start paying the freelance developers who make them. It was also a way that Steam would make more money, and the community was a little upset at the sudden change of course. However, Valve has just announced that they are not going to be pursuing the model for now and refunds have been issued to those that purchased a mod.

Valve employee Alden Kroll commented on the situation saying: “It’s clear we didn’t understand exactly what we were doing. We underestimated the differences between our previously successful revenue sharing models, and the addition of paid mods to Skyrim’s workshop.”
