I want to share a little story with everyone. Tuesday, as some of us know, was the first official day of Spring. Here, around the Chicago area, the weather has been beautiful with temperatures in the mid to high 70′s, clear skies, and a nice western wind (at least I think it was western). So on my way to work, I rolled the windows down, turned the radio up and hit the road. Then it happened…I hit a major traffic jam on I-294. I was flashing back to the opening scene of Office Space, where the old man in a walker was moving faster than everyone in their cars, people were changing lanes only to stop suddenly, it was a nightmare. Apparently a truck containing hydrochloric acid had crashed and tipped over, so they had to shut down all lanes of traffic, backing it up for a few miles. So, immediately I let work know I was going to be late, then nearly five hours later, I finally made it to work. Traffic that day made me want to blow off some steam.

Spring has sprung and I have been stung. After the commute from hell, work, and then driving back home, I was on edge. So after a day of cooling off, I decided to put together a list of…

The Top 5 Games to Play If You’re Angry

Honorable Mention 1: Mortal Kombat (2011)
They allow me to throw a spear into someone, and then murdering them in an underground fighting tournament to the death? Where do I sign up?

Honorable Mention 2: Streets of Rage
This Sega Genesis classic has the word “rage” in the title…and you get to pummel a countless amount of enemies to the dust…Ah, memories.

5) Twisted Metal 2, Black & 2012 version
Let me officially start this off where it all began, in a car. Can you imagine how much smoother commutes would be if you can just blast the guy that cut you off with a fire missile? How much better would life be if we can all drive an ice cream truck? Did I mention that it can turn into a giant robot? And you don’t have to take the main roads if you don’t want to…Just make sure the car is fortified enough to handle oncoming missiles.

4) Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction
You have a lot more in common with the Incredible Hulk than you think. You’re angry, some of you have an affinity for purple pants, and some parts of your body may or may not have been green at one point in time, but mostly it’s the anger thing. What better way to vent than running around punching missiles back at the helicopters that shot you, or dismantling a tank with your bare hands. Heck go out and just start smashing with a pair of makeshift boxing gloves, made from a car.

3) Littlebig Planet
This one takes a slight turn from the normal vibe of the game on the list, but let’s just say you had a bad day. Whether it came from waiting in traffic, or getting yelled at by a boss, or filling the gas tank up, all those problems seem so miniscule when you see the smile of your Sackboy, or Sackgirl. How can you be mad at the little guy, or girl? Look at him, if your custom made Sackboy or Sackgirl doesn’t make you smile, you might not have a soul.

2) Batman: Arkham City
I honestly don’t know what it is. Maybe it’s the visceral feeling of punching a criminal in the face, or maybe it’s stalking a gang of gun-toting thugs from above and below, picking them off one by one as they frantically try to find you before you take them out, or maybe it’s when I impersonate Christian Bale’s gruff Batman voice saying “I’m Batman”. But really that’s what it might be, that phrase, “I’m Batman”, because it genuinely feels like you have that kind of power of donning the cowl from behind the controller…Minus the upper 1% wealth.

1) God of War series
“The Gods of Olympus have abandoned me…Now there is no hope”, Oh but there is Kratos, see a mere mortal like us, rises to do the impossible, time and time again. It’s that feeling of being weak after having everything taken from you in the second, and the overall brutal evisceration of creatures and Olympic gods. I know after being on the road for five straight hours, working, then driving back home, disemboweling a centaur just felt so good.

So what did you think of the list? Was there anything I missed or is there anything you would’ve added? What do you play when you’re angry or riled up after a bad day at the office, home, or in general situations? Leave a comment in the section below and tell me what you think.
