master-chief-coffee-dreaming-of-halo-movieHalo the movie is in the news again. District 9 director Neill Blomkamp, who originally was going to make the Halo movie before backing out and using his assets, connections and more to create District 9 instead; recently made a comment on a Halo film.

Neill Blomkamp in speaking to IGN, told them that he is still interested in the universe and would still love to helm a Halo film, however only if he is given full creative control over the film’s direction.

To quote:
“I still really love the world and the universe and the mythology of Halo. If I was given control, I would really like to do that film. But that’s the problem. When something pre-exists, there’s this idea of my own interpretation versus 150 other people involved with the film’s interpretation of the same intellectual property. Then the entire filmgoing audience has their interpretation. You can really live up to or fail in their eyes. That part isn’t appealing to me, but the original pieces are appealing.”

While it doesn’t sound like talks regarding the film actually coming to fruition are happening at this point, Microsoft may be compelled to revisit the idea in light of these comments from Neill Blomkamp.

Is a Halo film a good idea? Or at this point do you believe it should be left alone to remain a mostly videogame property?
