After rumors and speculation, Nintendo has announced plans to release the followup to the Nintendo Entertainment System Classic Edition with the Super NES Classic Edition. The SNES Classic will go on sale September 29, and will retail for $79.99 USD. The system, like the NES Classic, is a mini version of the original console. It will include 2 SNES controllers, and 21 games pre-loaded in the system including never before released Star Fox 2.

The list of games include:

  • Contra III: The Alien Wars
  • Donkey Kong Country
  • EarthBound
  • Final Fantasy III
  • F-Zero
  • Kirby Super Star
  • Kirby’s Dream Course
  • The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
  • Mega Man X
  • Secret of Mana
  • Star Fox
  • Star Fox 2
  • Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting
  • Super Castlevania IV
  • Super Ghouls ‘n Ghosts
  • Super Mario Kart
  • Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
  • Super Mario World
  • Super Metroid
  • Super Punch-Out
  • Yoshi’s Island

With a high demand for the NES Classic, Nintendo has reportedly said they plan on shipping out more units than the NES Classic. However, they plan to ship out from the release date to the end of the year, and there is no real indication of how many SNES Classic units will be made. Pre-ordering and retailer information will be available soon, so keep an eye out at your local retailers.
