Torchlight II, the fantasy RPG by developer Runic Games, has sold 1 million copies since its release in September 2012. The developer confirmed this in a December 31st tweet, saying: “We had an amazing 2012, and proud to say that #Torchlight2 has sold over 1 million units!”

This marks an impressive step forward for Runic, whose previous game (the first Torchlight) took 18 months to sell 1 million copies.

What’s next for the Seattle-based studio is unclear, as there are no plans to port Torchlight II to consoles like its predecessor was, nor are there any plans to pursue a Torchlight MMO. Runic has stated that their next game will likely not be a Torchlight one, but with all the fans they’ve accumulated with the success of that series, whatever they create next will likely be met with eagerness.
