Phil Fish, developer and creator of Fez, has tweeted today that this seminal hit will finally be receiving a long overdue patch. Microsoft’s reversal of their patch certification process allows developers free reign when issuing bug fixes for their games. Instead of requiring an obscene fee, patches are now free to release.

Fez was hit with many bugs in the initial release that prompted Fish to release an update for the game. This update, in turn, caused users to have their save files erased. While the problem only effected 1% of the users, Fish couldn’t afford to pay for any further fixes on the game.

Hopefully more people will give Fez a chance on Xbox Live Arcade now. While Microsoft may be rolling in turmoil from their recent dealings, at least gamers will benefit from this new policy on patches.
