Warhammer 40,000: Dark Nexus Arena was announced recently by developer Whitebox Interactive, heralded by this teaser trailer:

The teaser shows off pre-alpha footage of Space Marines, Orks, Necrons, and the other usual suspects duking it out in isometric fashion. There seem to be minions, bases, towers, and other familiar MOBA mainstays as well.

Whitebox describes Dark Nexus as “a blend of the twin stick shooter and MOBA genres.” Teams will be made up of four players from the Space Marine, Ork, and Tau armies. The game’s website has many more armies listed than that, so there could be plans for more factions later in the game’s development.

Whitebox Interactive is a small team full of Warhammer fans that starting developing Dark Nexus “on faith” before Games Workshop picked them up. The studio is currently selling the game along with early access. Options range from $25 for an early access key all the way to a $250 package loaded with exclusive skins, customs HUD designs, and forum goodies.

Whitebox expects Dark Nexus to release in 2016.

Warhammer: End Times – Vermintide is another adaptation of a Games Workshop IP that was announced last month. The game will be a first-person, four-player co-op brawler featuring Warhammer’s Skaven race.
