Naughty Dog is a studio known for taking its time, so it’s only a little surprising that Neil Druckmann has announced that the Uncharted 4 release date has been pushed back to next year.

Writing on the Playstation blog, game directors Druckmann and Bruce Straley claim that Uncharted 4 has become “much more ambitious than [they] originally envisioned.”

An extended gameplay sequence was premiered at the Playstation Experience a few months ago. At the time, Uncharted 4 was slated for a 2015 release. Now, it’s apparent that Druckmann and Straley need more time to deliver the product they want:

Giving us a few extra months will make certain that Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End not only meets the team’s high standards, but the high standards that gamers have come to expect from a Naughty Dog title.

If all it takes is a few more months to deliver another quality game, so be it.

In related news, it was confirmed last month that Uncharted 4 will have multiplayer, AI companions (Nathan’s long-lost brother Sam, played by other Naughty Dog alumni Troy Baker) and an adventure set in Madagascar.

Here’s that gameplay video, and tell us what you think about the game’s delay in the comments below!
