bloodborne

Bloodborne

Despite the recent announcement of the games delay, pushing it back to late March, Bloodborne is easily one of my most anticipated games of 2015. I was already sold when Miyazaki stated that the game is a spiritual successor to 2009s Demon Souls. So far the Souls series has wowed us with it’s amazing boss fights, grueling difficulty and impeccable enemy design. Bloodborne seems to have taken these three important elements and invigorated the series with an old Victorian theme, as well as adding blunderbusses and changeable weaponry. With Hidetaka Miyazaki back in the director’s seat after his absence from Dark Souls II, Bloodborne looks to be an interesting and innovative step forward from the team at From Software.

Quantum Break

Remedy Entertainment has always been an interesting studio, with excellent games such as the first two Max Payne games as well as the Alan Wake series. They have introduced us to new and intriguing gameplay mechanics and Quantum Break seems no exception. Heavily focusing on the ability to manipulate time and this alone will bring a new an innovative edge to the third-person shooter mechanics that we have seen before. Quantum Break will also be the first game to blend live-action scenes into a videogame and depending on how you play the game, will impact the show and how it turns out. I am very intrigued to see if they can pull this off.

uncharted-4

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End

With last years The Last of Us, Naughty Dog cemented themselves as one of the best developers in the videogame industry. After Amy Hennig’s departure, Neil Druckmann and Bruce Straley have been brought over to take the lead on A Thief’s End. Taking what they have learnt from The Last of Us, the Uncharted series could take on a darker tone compared to its more lighthearted roots. The pulp action fun that we all loved in the first 3 installments will hopefully still be present, although it would be refreshing to see the overall tone of the game move in a new direction

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

The sheer size and scope of this game is what grabs me straight off the bat. With a huge living, open world that is over 30 times larger than any previous Witcher game, Wild Hunt will conclude the tale of Geralt of Rivia while granting you around 100 hours of gameplay. This game seems to be more ambitious than any I have come across and the ability to hunt down huge monsters and explore these vast and varied landscapes is something that will keep me hooked and coming back for more.

Mighty No. 9

Mighty No. 9 is what you get when Capcom doesn’t want to make a new Mega Man game and the creator of Mega Man does. Keiji Inafune took to Kickstarter to fund his new game Mighty No. 9, a game that clearly draws inspiration from his Mega Man series. The Kickstarter managed a whopping $4 million compared to the original asking price of $900,000. With the ability to hit these heights before the game is even out, it certainly shows the demand for a new game from Inafune. Despite the combat looking quite similar to the Mega Man franchise, the main protagonist has the Absorption Dash ability that will have you dashing forward and taking down your foes in new and innovative ways.
