Disney Shuts Down LucasArts Studios

After weeks of speculation, Disney lowers the ax on LucasArts Studios. The studio is now permanently closed and all 150 employees have been laid off. In addition to that, both of the studio’s current projects (Star Wars: First Assault and Star Wars 1313) are cancelled. This is incredibly sad news coming from Disney, who also shut down Junction Point Studios earlier this year.

This is the official statement to the public concerning the closure:

[gn_quote style="1"]“After evaluating our position in the games market, we’ve decided to shift LucasArts from an internal development to a licensing model, minimizing the company’s risk while achieving a broader portfolio of quality Star Wars games. As a result of this change, we’ve had layoffs across the organization. We are incredibly appreciative and proud of the talented teams who have been developing our new titles.”[/gn_quote]

Good luck to those that lost their job.
