2K Games came out this morning and confirmed that Mafia III is in development. While details are scarce, Mafia 3 has been confirmed for a full release at Gamescom early next month. There have been some recent rumors on its development including a domain leak late last month. Hangar 13, a new studio headed by Lucas Arts veterans, are hard at work on the game and will show of the first trailer on August 5th.

According to 2K Games in a recent statement, “Mafia III is the next installment in the popular series known for immersing players into a world of organized crime through rich narrative storytelling and a beautifully crafted game world featuring period-accurate cars, music, and fashion.”

We haven’t seen a Mafia game since 2015, so it will be interesting to see how the series has progressed with so much time off. Also of note is the time period that Mafia 3 takes place. Looking closely at the image released we can see that the cars and appearance of the characters, that the game may take place in the 1970’s.
