There was a brief outage last night impacting Xbox Live for both Xbox One and Xbox 360. The outage lasted over an hour giving an 80151909 error code warning users their Xbox Live profile has failed to download. There was never any indication from Microsoft’s Xbox support site of any issues with services or apps.

Claiming responsibility on Twitter was the hacker group Lizard Squad. Lizard Squad describes itself as “kings” of distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks. They tweeted this was only preparation for a larger attack at Christmas and last night was a “small dose of what’s to come”. Lizard Squad also claimed responsibility for similar attacks on Sony’s PlayStation Network earlier this year.

While Xbox Live is back online today this may be something worth keeping an eye on as we get closer to Christmas day.
