PC, Android, iOS

Kabam, a social game studio, is currently working on rolling out two Hobbit games.  Some avid mobile gamers might recognize Kabam from their earlier title Kingdoms of Cameolt.  Kabam has made multiple games for multiple platforms such as mobile gaming, PC gaming, Facebook games, and even Google+ games.  Their sights are now set on The Hobbit and its budding franchise.  One of their games is currently in beta on the PC,  The Hobbit: Armies of the Third Age.  The game itself is a real-time strategy styled game where the player can command armies of dwarves, elves, or orcs whiles also controlling heroes like Bilbo.

An overview of an Elven Kingdom

MGM and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment have joined with Kabam in the making of The Hobbit: Kingdoms of Middle-earth as well, a title to be released on Android and iOS platforms as a free-to-play strategy game.  The game works by expanding the kingdom using either an elf or a dwarf as your ruler and then building your army to defend your kingdom.  As with many other Kabam games there is a heavy social aspect and interaction with other players in order to build alliances or possibly make some enemies as well.   There are many other aspects such as conquering the lands of Middle-Earth, ridding the world of Goblins, and even competing against other players and non-players alike in tournaments for high stakes.  The game is already available in iTunes, the App Store, and Google Play for free and is based on Peter Jackson’s adaptation of The Hobbit which is releasing in theaters on Friday, December 14th.  As part of the deal, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment president Kevin Tsujihara will join Kabam’s board of directors and MGM CEO Gary Barber has opted for the role of “observer” over the project.   The Hobbit:  Armies of the Third Age is in beta and players can sign up to try to get in now.  As for The Hobbit: Kingdoms of Middle-earth, players can go to Kabam’s website or do an App Search to find out more.
