You know a game is serious business when it has not one but two subtitles.  Warhammer: End Times- Vermintide is a mouthful, and it was also announced earlier today.  Here’s the reveal trailer:

The trailer is a cinematic CGI affair, so there’s no gameplay to speak of other than the promised “first person 4 player co-op.” According to the trailer, the end is nigh. Apparently that involves the Skaven, a race of scary rat-people that eats regular non-people rats. There are a whole bunch of these Skaven folks it seems, and they’re coming topside to do something evil.

Developer Fatshark’s press release claims that Vermintide will involve first person shooter and melee combat, with five unique characters/classes to choose from. Players will work together to fight off the Skaven invasion of the city Ubersreik.

Vermintide will be coming to the PC, Xbox One, and Playstation 4 in “the second half of 2015.”

Fatshark’s credits include Escape From Dead Island, War Of The Roses, and Bionic Commander: Rearmed 2. War Of The Roses has been lauded for it’s visceral, punishing, and brutal first person melee combat, so one can expect some solid fighting systems in Vermintide.

Vermintide will join the ranks of many video game adaptations of Games Workshop licenses, including first person shooters, RTSs, MMORPGs, and third person brawlers. Relic Entertainment’s Dawn Of War is arguably the most successful, spawning a sequel and multiple expansions.
