Speaking at Stifel’s 2015 Technology, Internet, and Media Conference, Electronic Arts’ CFO Blake Jorgensen dropped some tantalizing hints about a Titanfall sequel:

Last year it was on the Xbox only; in the future, we haven’t yet announced, but we’ll probably have another Titanfall game. It will probably be a bigger footprint than just a single platform. I think that’s a huge positive for us.

Don’t get too excited yet.  Jorgensen was very careful with his language, making it completely clear that whatever title he’s talking about is still unannounced.

We’ve been expecting a Titanfall sequel for some time now since the original’s exclusive launch for the Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC in back in March.  The game didn’t quite make the splash that Halo did for the first Xbox, but it sold well enough for EA to secure the rights to Titanfall 2 anyway.

Jorgensen went on to say that EA’s plan is to release at least one new FPS every year. Battlefield: Hardline and Star Wars: Battlefront will be 2015’s titles.  After that, Titanfall 2 could be preparing to drop.

Titanfall is one of the last few system-exclusive killer apps, a holdover from generations when exclusives meant everything in the console war.  System exclusivity is becoming less important and less common in this eighth generation.  I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw Titanfall 2 on the Playstation 4 in 2016.
