Today, Nintendo officially released a presentation of its third quarter financial results. In the notes section of the presentation, Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata address the suggestions that the WiiU needs a price drop. His reply was:

With Wii U, we have taken a rather resolute stance in pricing it below its manufacturing cost, so we are not planning to perform a markdown. I would like to make this point absolutely clear.

Nintendo believes that the reason for the soft sales have been a failure of the public to realize the value of the system. They intend on trying to convey that value before the software library gets “enhanced”.
