South Park Digital Studios has objected to the news that THQ will sell the rights to all of their intellectual property including those belonging to the upcoming game South Park: Stick of Truth game. The studio announced that they did not give their consent to the deal and have since filed a complaint.

SPDS mentioned that as part of its agreement with THQ, they must pay the defaults on the licensing deal which came to over $2,275,000 dollars. SPDS was also looking for assurances that their deal was safe, if they didn’t get those assurances, they would refuse to work with the winning bidders of the property until they get a copy of their bid.

THQ has responded to SPDS’ claims saying that since the company is bankruptcy they have the right to sell their assets without the licensor’s consent. They also claim that there is no outstanding payments for the license and they assured SPDS that the game will do well.  They also mentioned that they are still working with SPDS to reach a resolution to the all their complaints before the auction commences.

Stay tuned for further updates.
