So it looks like the Vita is finally lowering its price, at least in Japan. Sony announced this morning, via an online broadcast, that starting February 28th both the 3G/Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi only models of the Vita are going to cost ¥19,980 (~$215). The original prices for the systems were ¥29,980 for the 3G/Wi-Fi model and ¥24,980 for the Wi-Fi only model.
We know sales of the Vita have been sluggish. Maybe this is all they need in Japan to get the system selling. There’s no word yet of a price drop outside of Japan, but if it’s going to happen we may hear something about it during Sony’s PlayStation 4 announcement on Wednesday. This is certainly lining up to be a huge week for Sony!
