Nintendo President and CEO, Satoru Iwata, will miss not attend the Electronic Entertainment Expo for a second year in a row. Last year Iwata missed the festivities due to illness. This year, Iwata will not be in Los Angeles due to other commitments. Nintendo issued a statement on the matter:

“Nintendo’s focus for E3 this year will be showcasing the many games we have coming for both Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. Mr. Miyamoto and other members of our development team will be in Los Angeles to explain these games and the unique experiences that each offers. Mr. Iwata’s focus in this period will be on other areas of our business that require his presence in Japan.”

With Nintendo doing another Nintendo Direct style video presentation they did last year, so don’t be surprised if he makes an appearance in the video.
