Ghosts

As an outlet, New Gamer Nation has already reviewed Call of Duty: Ghosts and you can see what we had to say here. However, we got our hands on Call of Duty: Ghosts for the PlayStation 4. This review supplemental will focus on the differences between the two versions of the game to help you decide which version is the one for you.

As we all know, Call of Duty: Ghosts is one of the best-selling games of the year. While they still have a while to go before they catch up to Grand Theft Auto V, their sales numbers are nothing to scoff at. Call of Duty: Ghosts also had the distinction of being one of the few launch titles to actually come out for the PlayStation 4. However, the question remains, which version of the game should you buy? Let’s get into why you should or shouldn’t buy the next-gen version of Call of Duty: Ghosts.

Much like Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, Call of Duty: Ghosts is only different from the PlayStation 3 version of the game in the graphics department. The PS4 version of Call of Duty: Ghosts runs impressively in 1080p which looks amazing on the PlayStation 4. The textures are sharp and clear, which when you compare them to the PlayStation 3 version, the PS4 is vastly superior. In addition to running in 1080p, the game runs at a crisp 60 frames per second ensuring that every animation and every explosion is as smooth as silk. Finally, the dynamic lighting effects found in the PS4 version make the game look far more realistic than the game has looked in the past. The color palate has warmed up considerably making character look like they were intended to complete with shadows and shading.

Despite the vast graphical improvements from one version to the next, the core gameplay experience is the same from one console to the next. Whether you choose the PS3 or the PS4 version, you are going to get a solid multiplayer experience with a very short campaign thrown in for good measure. With that being said and everything else being equal, we would recommend you pick up the PS4 version assuming you have both consoles and didn’t get the game already. With the PS4 version you get a much more polished visual experience and the graphics look amazing. While the PS3 version still looks great and it is worth the price of admission, why sacrifice on graphical fidelity when you don’t have to?

Overall, there really isn’t a big difference between the PS3 and PS4 version of the game. The core experience has been successfully ported from the previous generation to the next generation without any loss of content. The graphical differences are pronounced so if you love the series and have the PS4, get this game for the PS4 or upgrade your copy using the PS3 to PS4 upgrade program. It is definitely worth the $10 upgrade fee, so if you got that version of the game, go out now and get the PS4 version of the game, you won’t be disappointed.

This review is based on a review copy of the PS4 version of Call of Duty: Ghosts developed by Infinity Ward, published by Activision.
