May I present to you, your new console sales champion, the Playstation 3. The International Data Corporation just released its independent sales tracking data which revealed that the PlayStation 3 has sold 77 Million units to date, while the Xbox 360 sold 76 Million units. Microsoft has consistently shipped more units than the Playstation 3 and this turn of events means good things for the PlayStation brand. However, that was not the only data in the report when it came to the video game market.

They mention that the WiiU is having a hard time connecting to its audience and if it has any hopes to sell as well as the Wii, it will need to ship 50 Million units by 2016. If it doesn’t, it won’t even come close to the original Wii’s dominance of 97 Million units shipped.

Finally, they believe that both the PS3 and the Xbox 360 will stay relevant and current until 2014 and that disc based systems will be around for the foreseeable future.
