When the developers at Relic Entertainment brought us the Homeworld Series, they also gave us a brand new sub-genre of Real Time Strategy games. For a long time that was only game of value in the Space RTS sub-genre, until the developers at Ironclad Games came out with Sins of the Solar Empire.

Sins of the Solar Empire with their massively scaled, fully 3D environment featuring entire galaxies, orbiting planets, clusters of asteroids, space dust and radiant stars was the next step in the ever growing Space RTS genre. Sins of the Solar Empire has been out since 2008 but Ironclad Games has been supporting the game with many expansions including Entrenchment that brought new weapon upgrades and defense platforms. There was also Diplomacy which gave players more control over who they are at war with; and making diplomatic victory possible. Incentives for peace were added and cooperation including everything from increased resource rates to more firepower found its way into the formula.

Ironclad Games just announced a new standalone expansion to this series. Rebellion will be the third and only standalone expansion in the series which adds two new factions the Loyal and Rebellious, new Capitol ships and a completely new graphical engine.

Sins of a Solar Empire – Rebellion will be released on Steam June 12, 1012.
