According to a report from IGN, DirecTV NFL Sunday Ticket will not be available on the PlayStation 3 this season.

No official explanation has been given as to why the app will be unavailable this year, but it’s easy to assume that it has something to do with Microsoft and their multi-year partnership with the NFL that was announced during the unveiling of the Xbox One back in May.

This news comes as an unfortunate surprise as anyone who buys the “Anniversary Edition” of Madden NFL 25 on Amazon will receive a full-season free trial of NFL Sunday Ticket.

The NFL Sunday Ticket app was first made available on the PS3 in 2011 for $340.  The app allowed PS3 owners to use the service and watch Sunday NFL games outside of their local market without a subscription to DirecTV.  In 2012, the price was reduced to $299.95.
