Last week it was announced that a new Dead Island title was in the works titled Dead Island: Riptide. At the time, not much was known about the game aside from that original Dead Island developer Techland will be returning to spearhead the project, and that a reveal of the game will take place later this summer. Most recently however it’s been discovered that online retailers are marketing the title with a $49.99 price tag. This generated some speculation and fears that Dead Island: Riptide was just going to be a remake of Dead Island, much to like how Dead Rising 2: Off The Record was a remake of the original Dead Rising 2. Fear not, for Deep Silver’s Manager of Marketing and Public Relations Aubrey Norris recently stated in a twitter conversation that Dead Island: Riptide “is a new game. Not a remake.” Norris also went on to comment about the $49.00 price tag stating that “That’s the real price! It’s the end of a console cycle- we think this price makes a lot more sense given that.” Since no official release date has been announced yet, it’s safe to assume that we will be seeing Dead Island: Riptide sometime in 2013. Be sure to stay tuned to NGN for more on this title and all the latest in gaming news.
