The PC version of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is now available for pre-purchase on Steam, with a 10% discount, bringing the price down to just £10.79 or $13.49 in the US.  The release of the game on PC can be expected on the 21st August, and pre-purchase will grant access to the open beta of the game a week before the full release.

The Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game should be expec

ted on the 21st August also, however, the early access open beta is only available on PC or Mac.

While the exact content of the final release has not yet been announced, Valve promises that the game will include 'loads of maps' (so hopefully plenty more than are currently playable in the closed beta), as well as new game modes and new visuals.

If you are yet to experience the Counter-Strike phenomenon (and if so, where have you been since 1999?), the entire Counter-Strike franchise is on sale on Steam as part of the “Midweek Madness” deal.
