During the Microsoft press briefing, it was announced that Rise of the Tomb Raider was going to be an Xbox exclusive title. This caused an uproar in the community and at the event. People got upset that Tomb Raider would start out multiplatform for the first game, but pledge allegiance once the franchise got its legs.

When Eurogamer confronted Xbox Head Phil Spencer, he said” Yes, the deal has a duration. I didn’t buy it. I don’t own the franchise, I have Tomb Raider shipping next holiday exclusively on Xbox. It is Xbox 360 and Xbox One. I’m not trying to fake anybody out in terms of where this thing is. What they do with the franchise in the long run is not mine. I don’t control it.”

While this may not be a consolation for fans missing out on the exclusivity with Xbox, at least it isn’t a permanent deal.
