Jace Hall, co-creator of first-person survival horror series Condemned, wants to make a third one.  Last Saturday, Hall asked his Facebook followers if there’d be any interested in a Condemned 3, a few days and 664 comments later, IGN reached out to him for further comment:

“I want to give every interested indie studio out there a real opportunity of consideration. I’m looking for passion, creativity, drive, discipline, and determination. I am interested in receiving proposals and ideas. Please send them to []. I think there is a significant opportunity to move the genre forward with this franchise.”

Hall owns the rights to the Condemned franchise outright, so the series is his to do whatever he wants.  That, it seems, is to hand the keys over to an indie developer that has the best vision for the future of the games:

I believe that the best approach to this is to let a passionate developer do what they do best without interference or limitations imposed by me. Once I decide to grant the rights to a team, they are the boss.

In this age of bloated, over-produced AAA titles with way too much executive oversight, Hall’s attitude is antithetical to the status quo.  Hall seems to have only one interest in mind, and that is to create the best Condemned 3 possible– even when that means handing over his franchise to someone else.

It’s all conceptual at this point for Hall, who has made no decisions regarding gameplay, setting, distribution, or even the name.  He wants to be wowed by some indie developer, and that shouldn’t be a problem given the immense amount of talent out there right now.

Any title like the previous two Condemned games would fit in perfectly with the current survival horror renaissance we’re experiencing.  I’m loving the next-gen REmake, but there is a conspicuous lack of bludgeoning psychotic mannequins to death with a table leg.
