At this year’s New York Comic Con, we had the opportunity to sit down and play a number of new games that are right on the horizon. However, the first one we saw was How to Survive: Storm Warning Edition. How to Survive has been out on the PS3 for a little while now, but with a new generation of consoles comes a new version of the game and that is where Storm Warning was born.
For those unfamiliar with the game, How to Survive is best described as an isometric crafting adventure game. It is very similar to games like Don’t Starve or even Day Z or Rust with a different perspective. The emphasis was placed on getting materials together, crafting new, better items and using those against the undead.
This time around, 505 Games decided the game needs to available on the next gen, since it came out so late on the last gen. So the first thing that fans of the original will notice is that the graphics have been improved over current gen standards and it looks great. The textures and models look great, there is a lot more detail to be seen and it just lives up to next gen standards.
As a whole the game will include the extra challenging Kovac’s Way difficulty setting, extra characters, weapons, a new island, and the Barricade endless survival mode.
We got our hands on the standard story mode which really didn’t play too much differently than the original game did. Storm Warning is not a new game but rather a major update to the current game. The additions are focused on the content rather than the appearance or gameplay.
However, we did get to play the new barricade survival mode and this was certainly the most exciting part of the game. We had to battle a small wave of zombies and then scavenge as much materials as we could. We also had to keep an eye on the clock since more zombies would be coming at night time. Once you get back, you have just a few minutes to get everything together, build your defenses and start killing zombies.
While the mode isn’t anything we’ve never seen before, it definitely adds a new dimension to the game and gives you even more value for your money. We had a great time trying to beat our score and we are sure you will too.
Check out the teaser trailer for the game below and look for the game later this month on next gen consoles!
