We knew the developers of The Secret World was in trouble, but now things are taking a turn for the worse for Funcom. Today, the company announced that they would be closing their Beijing studio and lay off workers in their North Carolina and Montreal studios as well. This restructuring is in response to the Secret World’s poor subscription figures at launch.

The company now plans to combine its online operations in one location, Raleigh, NC. Now Anarchy Online, Age of Conan and The Secret World will all be run from North Carolina. The Montreal studio, where these games were originally located, will now be free to work on unannounced mobile and tablet projects as well as game engine development.

Luckily, since the Secret World went Free-to-play, the game has been much more profitable.
