The Japanese are known for their vast cultural differences from the rest of the world.  Those differences have produced some of the craziest games we’ve ever seen.  It takes a special kind of genius to make us tilt our heads and wonder what is going on but if anyone can do it, its the Japanese.  Here is our list of the Top 5 craziest Japanese video games.

5. Stretch Panic – This is a game where you play as a demonically possessed scarf.  You travel with a young girl looking to free her sisters of their demonic possessed personalities.  As the scarf you are shown as a giant hand and your main attack is to grab onto an object and stretch it as far as it will go and snap it back with violent force.  What makes this crazy is most enemies wear bras and underwear which you have to snap to defeat them.

4. Muscle March – A simple little game on the Wii marketplace that involves making poses with the Wiimote.  It is a very simple game to play but its visual and choices are way over the top.  All the characters you can play are body builders in competition form complete with speedos and all.  You can even play as a muscle bound panda!  Does this game get any more saturated with Japanese crazy sauce?

3. Cho Aniki – This is one of those games that developed a cult following because of how nuts it was.  This game really isn’t for minors because of all the imagery in the game but if you are in for a laugh at how many crazy things can happen in a horizontal side scrolling shooter than get this on the PSN.  To describe the game wouldn’t do it justice so I suggest just picking it up and surprise yourself at how nuts this game is.  The game is known for its over the top suggestive artistic choices so be prepared!

2. Katamari Damacy – This game came out for the Playstation 2 and ever since then its been a success in both the US and Japan.  It is not a AAA title but it does well enough for multiple sequels across multiple platforms.  The real charm in the game is the way the game is played but there is plenty of crazy Japanese flavor in this to let you know exactly where this game came from.  It is definitely a unique idea of have a prince roll up objects, people and buildings into a ball which gets turned into a star.  Weird.

1. LSD: Dream Emulator – Sure this game was designed to be weird from the beginning but it doesn’t prevent the game from missing the top spot on this list!  LSD is all about dreams, sometimes you have a good dream and other times you have nightmares and this game simulates both.  What makes this game weird is that random things happen all the time and anything can happen at any time.  You don’t know what is going to end the dream so you just interact with the environment.  It is an interesting game and I would like to see this done on a modern console and really see what crazy things these developers can come up with.
