We live in an age of high video game prices and let’s face the fact that this isn’t a cheap hobby to follow.  Regardless of the price of gaming, the market keeps expanding at a healthy pace.  Up until somewhat recently there was just one version of the game.  Now with larger releases there is collectors editions available along side the standard version for those that have a little money to burn.  Thankfully these collectors versions have included some really nice items that almost make it worth it.  Let’s take a look at some of the better editions that we’ve seen to date.

5.  Bioshock 2 Special Edition – In this edition you get your standard art book but from there things get a little more interesting.  You get a copy of the first Bioshock’s soundtrack on LP and the soundtrack from Bioshock 2 on CD.  After that you get some “in world” posters inspired by the game.  When you take into account all you get and a modest increase in price this turned out to be a good deal and worthy of a spot on the Top 5.

4.  Fallout New Vegas Collectors Edition – This edition includes the standard art book but it also includes a number of “in world” items or items that make an appearance in the game.  They give you a number of poker chips from the casinos in the game as well as a set of playing cards from the same casinos.  It also includes the infamous platinum chip which the beginning of the story revolves around.  Finally there is a documentary on the making of the game on a separate DVD.  This collectors edition was a really nice collection of items and only an additional $20 for all of that.  Pretty nice deal.

3.  Dead Rising 2 Zombrex Edition - If you never played Dead Rising 2 you may not get why this edition is really cool but I will attempt to explain.  In the game you need a drug called Zombrex to prevent your infected daughter from becoming a zombie.  This collectors edition includes the gamein a steelbook case, Blu-ray disc containing the 24-minute “Making of” featurette, Zombrex “Syringe” pen, Zombrex “Prescription” notepad, Zombrex “Safety” card, Zombrex “Prospectus” sales brochure, the standard artbook, and a voucher for an XMB dynamic theme.  Obviously there is a ton of “in world” content and this edition looked like you had some drugs sent to your house with all the Zombrex drug info.  Very cool edition and very cheap to get your hands on now.

2.  Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Prestige Edition – This edition was very expensive costing gamers nearly $200 for just one game.  What made this almost worth the money was what was included in the box and it was something awesome.  You got a copy of the game in a special edition tin case, which in my opinion is great, but that was just the beginning.  You got a token to download Call of Duty Classic, the standard art book and the coup de gras a real pair of night vision goggles with matching stand.  These goggles were fully functional and full sized.  A very awesome perk indeed.  A special honorable mention to the Call of Duty: Black Ops Prestige Edition which included a remote controlled car with video camera attachment.

1.  Uncharted 2: Fortune Hunter Edition – This is the holy grail of Playstation 3 collectors editions and they often retail for $2,000 or more on eBay.  This version was not available in stores and very few copies were printed.   The Fortune Hunter edition contains the game, a replica of the Phurba Dagger artifact and stand, a BradyGames strategy guide, an art book, the official soundtrack, and a collector’s case autographed by Naughty Dog as well as various downloadable content.  This was a truly epic collection of items for one of the best games of the system.
