Microsoft has announced today that people who bought an Xbox One only to find that their new console’s disc drive was broken are being gifted with free digital titles.

According to a customer care email from the console manufacturer, which was forwarded to Polygon, gamers with faulty disc drives will be offered one of the following titles for free download, Dead Rising 3, Froza Motorsport 5, Zoo Tycoon or Ryse: Son Of Rome.

“While a replacement console is on its way, we want to ensure our advance exchange customers can stay in the game,” a statement from Microsoft said. “We will provide each of them with a free digital download of one of the launch titles published by Microsoft Studios.”

Just in case you missed it, reports and Youtube videos started hitting the web early on Xbox One launch day with people showing off broken – and actually quite terrifying – sounding blu ray disc drives.  Microsoft directed affected users to contact Xbox phone support. However, with the recent announce that Microsoft have sold to retailers almost 1 million Xbox One consoles, the percentage of busted drives must be quite small. If this is the case, this free title incentive can’t cost MS too much and still manages to place them in a good light.

Xbox…. Good move.
