It’s a big week for the Souls series by From Software. Dark Souls, the second installment in the famously difficult dark fantasy franchise, is now being sold as a $20 “Greatest Hits” game for Playstation 3.
Amazon is currently selling the game for just under $19, but the game’s expansion pack, Artorias of the Abyss, is sold separately.
In other Souls news, Demon’s Souls is getting the downloadable treatment with PSN releases in North America and Europe. The North American version will land on the PSN store on January 8th for $20, and the European version will release on January 23rd for an unconfirmed price. From January 8th until the 14th, the game’s servers will have a “White World Tendency” event, in which the game is made slightly easier and otherwise-inaccessible areas are opened up.
Also, the third as-yet-unnamed installment in the Souls franchise was recently announced. The game is not being headed by the director of the first two titles, Hidetaka Miyazaki. It will feature a “new hero, a new storyline, and an unfamiliar world,” according to Namco Bandai, and will also be “more straightforward” than Dark Souls.
