While many of the details are still unknown, Amazon has announced that they have acquired Killer Instinct developer Double Helix along with all its intellectual property in a stunning turn of events. The deal was made to provide Amazon’s customers with quality gaming experiences. All 75 employees of the developer were kept on and the transition begins.

In response to the acquisition, Microsoft has come forward to announce that they are currently looking for a new studio to take over the Killer Instinct franchise. However, the status of the current season is still unknown. Microsoft also released the following statement: “We have thoroughly enjoyed working with Double Helix and wish them success in their next endeavor,” a Microsoft spokesperson told Polygon. “We want all of our loyal fans to know that the Killer Instinct team at Microsoft is not changing and that the franchise will remain with Microsoft Studios. We remain dedicated to delivering a great experience and plan to announce our new development partner soon. We’re excited about the future of this popular franchise.”
